Well here we are again with another great show for you and I only have one question. To wrap up the first hour,,, Holly Bostick, the owner of “Save the Hunter“, will be on hand to talk about why she formed this company as well as what she can do to help you proudly display your sport.

To kick off the second hour, I will be joined by the national Sales Manager of FoodSaver® to talk about ways you can keep your fresh fish and game from being freezer burned. There is nothing worse then having a successful fishing trip or hunt and after 3 months getting steaks out of the freezer only to have them freezer burnt. And yet here is another gift idea for the hunter or fisherman or woman that has everything. Truthfully, it seems like a great way to freeze bulk items you buy from Costco as well.

Then it’s time to go “Cooking with Camp Chef”as Marketing Director Steve McGrath will be on hand to talk cooking ideas as well as,,,, yep you guessed it,, Christmas Gift ideas.

Then for the exciting news, Milton Joseph will be joining me from Wind Walker Expeditions to talk about a number of different things and you’ll just have to wait.

Good Deed Doers Ramping Up For The Holidays
 
We talk - plenty - about things we can do to help the members of our armed forces serving away from home. As we’re only a couple of weeks away from Thanksgiving and less than six weeks from Christmas (egads!), it’s the time when being away from is toughest.

With that in mind, our Arizona friend Jim Solomon has decided to do more than talk about helping our troops who love fishing. Recently, Jim was talking on his radio show (Xplor the Outdoors with Jim and Patti) with Jeff Surdakowski from “Packages from Home” - an organization that sends nearly 2,000 packages a month to armed forces members around the globe.

During the conversation, Surdakowski mentioned that many of the service members loved fishing, but didn’t have fishing tackle to fish when they were off duty. In fact, some of the troops, he said, had even mentioned the fun of fishing tournaments to break the monotony of off-duty time.

Jim Solomon’s the wrong guy to make that suggestion to. Earlier this week, he contacted me to let me know about “Hook, Line and Freedom” - a new program with Packages From Home that is going to be sending fishing tackle to the troops. Starting on Veteran’s Day, Arizona sportsmen were being encouraged to take their slightly used or new fishing gear (rods, reels and tackle) to three locations, either Sportsman’s Warehouse stores in Phoenix or Mesa, or th Fisherman’s Choice Pro Shop in Phoenix.

Workers from “Packages from Home” will then pickup the gear and get it out to the troops. If you like the idea, you can help the “Packages” organization by helping them offset some of the significant costs of packing and shipping overseas. You can learn more on their website at www.packagesfromhome.org. I was pleased to learn the organization was-like many good ideas - the result of one mom sending her son care packages from home. When Kathleen Lewis discovered her son, Christian, was the only member of his squad getting packages from home, she and some friends decided to adopt his squad. From that simple act of kindness, the organization has grown to become officially recognized by the Department of Defense to send packages to troops.

As the project progresses, we’ll keep you posted.

And if you have a budding artist in your midst, the eleventh annual Wildlife Forever State Fish Art contest is underway. Students from grades 4-12 can choose one of their native state fish and send an illustration of it, along with a written composition on its behavior, habitat and conservation as their entry. The State -Fish Art contest is used to interest youth in both art and fisheries conservation.

“HOOK, LINE AND FREEDOM”

Jim Solomon, host of “Xplor the Outdoors with Jim and Patti”, an outdoor radio show sponsored by Sportsman’s Warehouse, that airs LIVE every Sunday morning from 7-9 in Phoenix, Arizona on AM 1060 the Fan and around the globe on www.xplortheoutdoors.com , is once again joining forces with the “Packages from Home” organization that sends around 2,000 packages a month to our troops overseas to bring you “Hook, Line and Freedom”.

“Hook, Line and Freedom” actually just came into being a little over a week ago as Jim was having a conversation with Jeff Surdakowski from “Packages from Home” about Jim’s segment “Honoring Those who Honor Us” which is also a way troops are honored on “Xplor the Outdoors with Jim and Patti”.

When Jeff was on Jim’s show about a month ago he forgot to mention the troops love for fishing and how they would like to do some fishing, and maybe hold a tournament but did not have the resources. Jim’s response to that was, “No Sweat, we’ll kick it off on Veterans Day, Tuesday the 11^th”.

So, beginning Veteran’s Day, Tuesday the 11^th, sportsmen and women can bring their slightly used or new fishing gear, (rods, reels and tackle), to one of the two Sportsman’s Warehouse’s located in Phoenix and Mesa or the Fisherman’s Choice Pro Shop in Phoenix. The folks from “Packages From Home” will come and pick up the gear and get it out to the troops. That being said, it said, remember it costs money to ship these items out, so if you don’t fish, but want to help out,. You too can be a part of something special by logging onto www.packagesfromhome.org and finding out where you can send your donations.

This week on Xplor the Outdoors with Jim and Patti Solomon, we’ve got a great show for you. One that will give you new ideas for Christmas. Patti is off this week working on the kidz show so you’re stuck with me I’m afraid.

My first guest is the co-owner of probably the most indestructible cooler on the market. Ryan Seiders from Yeti Coolers is on the road but will be pulling off to tell us about the coolers that are even grizzly proof.

Next up I have a real treat for you. Lou Riley, the CEO of GamoUSA Adult Air Rifles and BSA Optics will be joining me to talk about some unbelievable air rifles they have on the market. They just sent me the Whisper in 17 caliber and the Hunter Extreme in a 22 caliber. They both come with 3×9 scopes and are an absolute blast literally, to shoot. I went out with both of them yesterday and shot for about an hour and a half. You want to talk accuracy? These guns have got it and the Whisper is just that. Then to wrap up the first hour,,, Lou will be back with me to tell you about BSA Optics. You have to look through them to understand the clarity.

In the second segment, Danny  Giovale the owner of Kahtoola Snow shoes will be joining us to teach you how to move around in the deep snow this winter without sinking up to you backside in snow. It’s sure a lot cheaper then cross-country or down hill skiing and a better workout.

Then  in the last segment,,, Nicole Deboom, the owner of  Skirt Sports will be on-hand to talk about an amazing product for the athletic/outdoors women in the audience. Now matter what time of year it is,, in Arizona, women are always out xploring the outdoors.

To wrap up the show Jeff from Packages from Home will join me to talk about “Hook, Line and Freedom”. A new program we are working on to get GOOD used fishing equipment to our troops overseas.

“We’re Makin a Difference in Your Outdoor World”.

Between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. tonight, voters in my state will help decide the direction of the nation for a minimum of the next four years. There are a wealth of positions, candidates and issues before me on today’s ballot, but I’m afraid my attention remains locked into the Presidential race.

That position, despite the fact that the Congress really has more power to actually accomplish its goals, is more than the figurehead of the nation. It will reflect the philosophical direction of America. Despite what the polls, pundits and so-called experts say, I believe it’s still a horse race.

For that reason, I’m hoping everyone reading my unimportant thoughts this morning will grasp a simple truth that can make a huge difference: every one of us must head head to the polls today. We all need to work to make certain as many people as possible also get out and vote. That work should include whatever we can do to get them to the polls. Offer rides. Cajole. Hector. Call it what you want, but get the people you care about to the polls today.

There are plenty of reasons.

Should anti-gun groups win a majority of support in the House and Senate, new regulations - tough ones- may certainly be on the way.

Campaign promises (fortunately, not always binding verbal agreements) have promised rapid action on a new - and loophole-free - assault weapons ban. We know the term is fallacious, but “assault weapon” is an anti-gun buzzword that motivates the masses.

Another potential victim of that anti-firearm sentiment might include the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act along with new anti-firearms regulations.

But there are other reasons to be concerned.

“Consider,” says Steve Sanetti, President of the National Shooting sports Foundation, “that the next president could nominate as many as three Supreme Court justices, will appoint the next director of the ATF and will either support or resist U.N. gun-control efforts. Make no mistake, this is not the time for gun owners to take a back seat.”

That’s not an exaggeration.

The next president will have the opportunity to leave indelible marks on our nation.

Each of us must vote in order to send a message to Washington, New York, and any other location where the viewpoint of the common man is of little, if any, consequence.

Today, “average citizens” of the United States -if we stick together - can say we are sick and tired of being force fed positions that load heavier burdens on working individuals and reward slackers.

Even if we don’t win every position in every race, we can send that “clear, high signal” so often referred to by behavioral scientists. A signal that we are not so polarized; conservatively, nor liberally, as we have constantly been portrayed.

Sometime between the opening of the polls this morning and their closing this evening, every one of us must exercise one of those rights that our predecessors died to “preserve, protect and defend, from all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

To have that right and fail to exercise it for anything other than a catastrophic reason, is to vote- tacitly- with those people who believe “average” Americans are too-stupid, too-lazy, or simply too-self-absorbed to be trusted to govern.

Don’t prove those people right.

We - the people - need you to VOTE.

If you don’t, you have no right to complain about the outcome.

This week on Xplor the outdoors with Jim and Patti Solomon we are going from celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Evinrude to heading up to the YMCA’S High Desert Hunt Club pheasant and chukar hunting to-checking out the new pink Daisy Air Guns for the little chicks to enjoy. Patti is down with the flu this week so I’m Bachin it.

My first guest is the Vice-President and General Manager-of the Evinrude Outboard EngineDivision. Roch Lambert will be joining me to talk about the history of Evinrude and what has lead them into their 100th Anniversary.

In the second segment,,,Levi Bowman, the CEO of King’s Outdoor World, and one of the Poacher ChroniclesSponsors, will be with me talking hunting, camo and and the world of King’s.

Then to wrap up the first hour I will be joined by Chet Sagaser, with the Gold Prospectors Association. They’ve got doins going on at the Sportsman’s Warehouse on 27th and Yorkshire on the 15th and 16th of this month. So you can take the whole family there and learn about gold mining and how to find it. They are having all kinds of fun things going on so you don’t want to miss it.

Kicking off the second hour,,  Jay Collins from the YMCA’s High Desert Hunt Club will be on hand to talk about the upcoming opening day to be held up at the Chauncey ranch next weekend. A great place to spend the day shooting Pheasants and Chukar.

In the second segment, Paul Robinette from Paul’s Roofing will be joining me to talk about what you should look for when your roof begins to leak and how he can take care of that for you.

 Then the fun begins. Check this out ladies. Is this not awesome??? I have already got two on order, one for Patti and one for my beautiful granddaughter IVVY. Oh Yea, My next guest is the Marketing Director for Daisy Air Guns,  Joe Murfin. We’re not only going to talk history with Daisy but we’ll be talking about these cute guns for the ladies of all ages.

$4,000 reward offered in poaching of two bull elk
 
KINGMAN, Ariz.  – The Arizona Game and Fish Department is offering a reward of up to $4,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individuals responsible for the poaching of two bull elk.

The two elk were poached in Game Management Unit 10, north of Ash Fork, on Sept. 24. After killing the elk, the poachers removed the antlers from both animals and left the remainder to waste.

“This incident is the most wanton act I’ve investigated in the past 15 years” said Scott Poppenberger, wildlife manager for the Arizona Game and Fish Department. “It really demonstrates the vulnerability of the resource to abuse by disrespectful criminals. I want to be clear: the individuals involved with this incident are not sportsmen.”

Game and Fish investigators have collected a substantial amount of physical evidence in the case that will confirm the violators’ presence at the crime scene.

“Several individuals were involved in this violation and have undoubtedly told others about poaching the elk, and people have probably seen the antlers,” Poppenberger said.

“If you’ve heard anyone discussing this incident, or if you saw anything suspicious in the area or know where these individuals are, we ask that you contact us. We’re certain people will do the right thing and help us complete this investigation.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Operation Game Thief at (800) 352-0700. Caller identities will remain confidential upon request. The department is currently offering a reward up to $4,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individuals involved in this violation. Former Police Chief Dragged By Neck In Road Rage Incident
A former Police Chief (Ret.), neighbor and friend was assaulted in a road rage incident in the Headquarter town of TigerLight, Inc.. Heber City, Utah. There are several important things to learn from what happened to our friend. Own a TigerLight…which he did. Have it with you…which he did not. It can happen to anyone, anywhere.
A driver from another state cut in front of him. Our friend honked and continued driving to an apartment complex. The other driver followed him. When he got out of his car the jerky driver pulled in front of him, yelling obscenities. Our friend, a large man, tried to stop the guy from getting out of his car and starting a fight by holding the door shut.
The former Chief had a lanyard around his neck which was attached to a cell phone, which the guy grabbed from inside the car and took off, dragging him by the neck and nearly killing him. The lanyard broke and the driver got away with the cell phone and has not been found.
I sure wish our friend would have had his TigerLight® in his hand. He is OK. He is home from the hospital and recovering. I’m sure he never imagined something like this would happen. A TigerLight® in hand could have prevented it.
